special needs

At The Prudential Insurance Company of America, we understand that providing proper care for loved ones with special needs isn't a simple task. The population of persons identified as living with a disability-more than 12% of the U.S. population-is varied and warrants services suited to their unique needs.1 That's why we maintain a dedicated and trained group of financial professionals who can offer potential solutions for every stage of their lives using appropriate insurance and financial products.

This group of financial professionals participates in the Prudential Special Needs Solutions…For All Ages training program to become better educated on the broad range of issues that affect families that have dependents with special needs. As a result, these financial professionals have a greater understanding of the concerns and goals that you may have, which often include:

  • Ensuring quality of life for your loved one with special needs
  • Funding Special Needs Trusts2
  • Saving for retirement
  • Protecting your assets

Prudential associates share their perspective on the importance
of planning for your loved ones with special needs.

Our services

While our financial professionals do not provide tax or legal advice, they can:

  • Help educate you about the benefits of establishing a special needs trust for your dependent, and in particular, how it can protect your loved one's eligibility for government assistance, such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid.
  • Deliver workshops to caregivers and non-profit associations.
  • Recommend the proper financial products to help fund a special needs trust.
  • Help you create a Letter of Intent, which states your wishes for your dependent's future, so that family members and future caregivers have a full understanding of the individual's personal preferences, habits, health issues, educational goals, housing, work goals, etc.
  • Connect you to a listing of attorneys with expertise in special needs law.

2A Special Needs Trust (SNT) is a legal document, prepared by an attorney with expertise in special needs law, for the benefit of an individual-a child, spouse, or surviving parent-with a disability. It may be created either while the grantor is alive (an inter vivos SNT) or be part of a will (a testamentary SNT). A child, spouse, or parent with disabilities often has unique and long-term needs that are not provided for by Medicaid and other government benefit programs, such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI). The SNT operates to meet those needs.
