Prudential's Global Volunteer Day, formerly known as Prudential's National Volunteer Day, originated out of Prudential's Local Initiatives area, which coordinates volunteer efforts by Prudential employees and works to address needs in specific communities. The first company-wide Volunteer Day was held on October 28, 1995. Starting that year with 5,000 employees participating in 100 projects, the daylong event has enjoyed substantial growth and now includes the participation of more than 32,000 participants at over 800 projects in more than 12 countries.
Global Volunteer Day is shaped by employee interest. Prudential has found that its employees prefer to independently identify the partner organizations or issues that will be the focus of their volunteer efforts. Prudential's 15th annual Global Volunteer Day is Saturday, October 3, 2009.
