Required Minimum Distributions Changes for 2009
On December 23, 2008, President Bush signed the Worker, Retiree and Employer Recovery Act of 2008 (Act) into law. One of the primary components of the act is that it suspends the requirement of minimum distributions (RMDs) from Traditional and SEP Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) in 2009. If you are age 70 ½ or older and have a Traditional or SEP IRA, this means that you will NOT be required to take your annual RMD from your IRA in 2009. It is important to note that the new law does not suspend RMD requirements for 2008. If you are an IRA holder who turned 70 ½ in 2008 and chose not to take your first RMD until the required beginning date of April 1, 2009, you must take your 2008 distribution. You will not be required, however, to take a second RMD in 2009. Go Green! e-Delivery for Statements, Confirms, Tax Documents and Shareholder Communications
