It’s often said that when it comes to career paths and success, the die is cast early in our lives. Our vocational journey may take twists and turns as we mature, but our strengths and interests in youth typically carry over to adulthood. Such is the case with Michael Kaye, Financial Planner for The Prudential  Insurance Company of America.

When Michael was a child, his father was a successful salesman and his mother an entrepreneur who started her own cosmetic business. This dynamic entrepreneurial combination helped Michael develop strong social skills and self-confidence while young, and has stood him well ever since.  An avid soccer player and team captain, Michael grew up understanding the value of teamwork, preparation, communication, coaching and leadership. On his way to a pre-med degree, Michael found he preferred math to science, and switched his major from science to economics. That transition, he says, also was promoted by an uncle who was a stockbroker and who would take Michael to work, teaching him the foundations of the stock market and solidifying his decision to become a financial planner.

He was hired in 2001 by Brian Coleman, now a managing director for Prudential in Colorado. The youngest staff member at the time, Michael brought a thirst to learn, strong listening and communication skills, and an easy-going, personable style, Coleman remembers. “Michael likes helping people, and believes in the importance of finding balance and stability for himself and his clients,” Coleman recalls. “His clients totally trust him, and for good reason:  He’s an accomplished expert at helping people examine and overcome obstacles to achieving financial security. He works with people to build an affordable roadmap, and then guides them to their goals.”

Michael was a quick learner and eventually expanded his areas of experience to become a full-service financial planner, with a comprehensive understanding of financial/retirement planning tools including investments, education, and long-term care planning. He quickly established himself as one of the top financial professional, trusted for his service, knowledge and personal care. He became a national sales leader and top producer for six consecutive years, and has been a member of the industry’s prestigious “Million-Dollar Roundtable” every year since 2007.

In addition to his financial services acumen, Michael’s coaching skills helped him establish a niche as a teacher and workshop leader. He offers financial services workshops and seminars across the country focused on helping people  build their financial literacy. He runs workshops on all aspects of financial planning for the Federal Employed Women’s Association (FEW), Blacks In Government (BIG), and for the employees of Maryland’s Colleges and Universities. His workshops are among the most popular and get excellent reviews from attendees. In 2011 the FEW awarded him the Private Sector Award for providing their members outstanding financial literacy workshops.

Even with all his success, Michael never forgets his roots or the importance of a personal touch. Mark Sheinkopf, a 42 year veteran at Prudential, selected Michael as his “business succession partner”. With generations of trust on the line, Mark wanted to know his clients would continue to receive knowledgeable advice from someone who inspires confidence, is approachable and above all-is trustworthy. Michael “knows how to explain things simply so my clients – regardless of their education or knowledge – will easily understand the options available to them.” Those sentiments are echoed by Brian Coleman, who adds, “Michael never quits – he stays in touch, builds long-lasting relationships, is methodical yet retains a great sense of humor and perspective. I’m very proud of what he’s accomplished, and would hire him as my own financial planner!”

Michael received his Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Delaware. He lives in Derwood, MD with his wife and two children. When he’s not working he enjoys being with his family, playing golf and volleyball.  Michael, holds his series 6, 63, 65, Life and Health license and is certified in LTC and holds a CMFC designation. He is licensed in the states of MD, VA, NY, DC, PA, IA, GA, FL, IN, IL, DE, OH, TX , TN, MI ,WA, NM and CA.
