THE AFRICAN AMERICAN FINANCIAL EXPERIENCE

Women Adjusting to the Breadwinner's Role

Over the past few years, women increasingly have found themselves in the role of primary breadwinner of their household. According to Prudential's report, "The African American Financial Experience," 71% of the African American women surveyed indicated that they are the primary decision-makers in their households. Only 54% of the general population described themselves as being in a similar situation.

One reason for this shift may be attributed to the recession's effect on industries that disproportionately employed men. How spouses adapt to this new order can have a strong impact on their family's future.

If you've suddenly found yourself to be the primary breadwinner of your family, these tips may help you and your family adapt to this major change.
